Everybody comes to a point in their life when they get stuck at a crossroad and must make a decision on which way to go. Crossroad moments make us face where we are now, consider where we want to be, and choose the best path to promote growth and reach our goals.

When decisions have to be made and change is inevitable, it helps to have support to embrace new beginnings. There are different ways you can deal with making the choice to move on from the doubts, fears, worries, and problems of the past. Choosing the right path to pursue is critical. Which road will you take?

Let Coastal Crossroads Solutions help you get back on the right track. The practice promotes help and healing in a safe judgment-free therapeutic environment where clients feel seen and supported. The therapeutic approach is primarily geared toward Social Learning and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) approaches. However, a variety of techniques and interventions are used to help clients make better choices, learn coping skills, improve relationships, and minimize self-defeating behaviors.

Dr. Martin provides individual and group therapy for children and teens (ages 4-17), and adults (parents). She specializes in working with children who struggle with managing their emotions, have behavioral issues, mood disorders, low self-esteem, school difficulties, anxiety, autism, ADHD, and trauma. Dr. Martin has worked extensively with military families and is sensitive to the issues and challenges associated with the military lifestyle.

The practice also offers school-based mental health services, consultation, professional development for teachers, and parent in-service training.

Testimonials

Mental Health

I worked with Dr. Martin at a military-affiliated elementary school. She was an emotionally impaired special education teacher, and I was a general education teacher. Her ability to reach not only emotionally impaired students but general education students is remarkable. She serviced students assigned to her on her caseload and those that were not on her caseload. More than once, she gave me suggestions on how to reach my students that were difficult for me to reach on my own. She encouraged me to hold high standards for all students and continue to make personal connections with students.

I appreciate Dr. Martin’s willingness to serve students on her caseload and those that were not on her caseload. She truly believed and showed that it takes a village to raise responsible and contributing members of society. Dr. Martin cares for the mental health of all students and her coworkers. I appreciate the care she showed me and the lessons she taught me.

My daughter Danielle loved Dr. Martin when she attended elementary school. She talked about you all the time. ~ Parent

Elementary School
Teacher

I worked with Dr. Martin for several years at an elementary school. She was a bright light at our school. Dr. Martin not only cared for the students, but also for the adults in the building. She was professional and real when speaking with students and adults. Dr. Martin does not sugarcoat or tell you what you want to hear. She assesses the situation, helps you create an action plan, and holds you accountable for the implementation. Dr. Martin is encouraging and wants everyone to succeed and fulfill their goals, and is willing to put in the hard work that is required in walking beside you. I was blessed to work with her and still look to her in confidence that she will be the support that is needed during celebratory times and times of need.

Many opportunities and privileges come our way when we least expect them. Thank you, Gwen Martin, for being a shining light to the many students over the past years with your expertise and love demonstrated towards them and educators across the Department of Defense Schools. You’ve taken out your time to listen to, walk with, talk with, and helped students through some trying and difficult times. As a counselor, it’s oftentimes, how we approach others with the messages we send. You’ve shown nothing but professionalism while working with the students in your care. As an Assistant Pastor, Life Coach, and Mentor myself, I’ve observed you and I’m happy to say, you’re an expert at what you do. Thanks for contributing to the nurture and growth of students you’ve mentored and counseled.

Janice Stewart

Do you want solid no-nonsense advice on a multitude of issues pertaining to self-care and improving the academic and social behaviors of students? If the answer to that question is yes, Gwen Martin is the counselor for you. I worked with Gwen for years and saw a multitude of examples of her positive impact on both students and teachers. When third-grade teachers needed help interpreting data and creating a plan to improve students’ test scores, Gwen was there for us. She led our group and provided much-needed guidance as we analyzed data and developed a plan to improve our students’ performance. The results were quite positive. When teachers’ felt overwhelmed and needed advice on self-care, Gwen was there for them. I also witnessed students become more self-aware, learn to take responsibility for their actions, and become better adjusted to their classroom environments under Gwen’s guidance. I highly recommend Gwen Martin to both adults and children in need of counseling services.

I’ve worked with Dr. Martin in the past with students we have shared. She is more than just a teacher to her students, she is also a counselor and someone they can confide in. She provides a wide variety of strategies and support systems to help her students. She makes her students feel welcome and appreciated.

Assistant Prinicpal
Fraser Counseling Center

I provided direct supervision for Gwen as she worked toward her LPC while completing a clinical internship with Fraser Counseling Center.  Gwen has excelled in working with adolescents who are struggling with troubling issues in their home environments and being disruptive in their classrooms at school. Gwen learned and used a variety of counseling methods based on each client’s specific background and behavioral issues. With each one, she took into account and respected the individual differences, experiences, and values; provided realistic goals; encouraged clients in appropriate self-expression, and communicates a genuine interest and concern for each client. Gwen is progressive-minded and was constantly looking for ways to improve her counseling approach. She was and has remained focused on increasing her knowledge of the discipline and continually assessing the effectiveness of the counseling services she provides. As a highly talented counselor, Gwen holds herself to a high standard of performance and professionalism and is a committed advocate for her clients. If you looking for an attentive, well-trained, and seasoned professional counselor, I assure you, you will not be disappointed in choosing to work with Dr. Gwen Martin.

I have had the honor and privilege of working with Dr. Gwen Martin for many years in support of our military families and children who are part of the DoDEA school system. During this time, I worked alongside Dr. Martin in her role as a school counselor. Dr. Martin expertly and effectively supported not only the social and emotional needs of students but their parents and school staff as well. The positive impact made on these lives is profound and immeasurable. I am disappointed to lose Dr. Martin as part of the DoDEA community, but excited that she will now be accessible to an even wider community.
